The closer I got to the hotel, the more I got to thinking about how Moms would go off by herself, at least, once or twice every year or so and wouldn’t tell me and Dacha shit. She had been doing that since we were kids.

After what happened to Moms that night at that party, I was pretty sure she wanted to be in her own stretch.

When I got to the hotel where Dacha said she’d seen Mom’s car, I pulled up next to Dacha’s candy apple red 2012 Intrepid. Dacha got out and walked around the car to me, shaking her head in disgust. I could tell somebody had already pissed her off. I nodded my head to say “what’s up” to her nigga, and he did the same back.

“Damn! I was about to leave again.”

“My bad, sis. So you already been inside?”

“Yeah. I went in, but the bitch in there acted like she couldn’t hear, so I came back out, and you pulled up just in time. I almost left. Man, you know how I feel about yo’ mom!”

“I know. Thank you for waiting on me, though. But how fucking hard is it to ask for a name?”

“Exactly. That bitch in there is illiterate!”

“Off tops, you probably got smart with her. I know how you is.”

As we entered the lobby and approached the desk, I noticed that the girl was smiling at me in a flirtatious way.

“Hi, DJ. Long time no see.”

I had to look at her nametag to remember where I knew her from. Nastacia? Damn! That didn’t half-ass ring a bell, and she didn’t look familiar. She was a thundercat—cute, tall with nails for days. Her long ponytail was curled and laid on her big-o-titties. She had a little gut and thick hips and thighs that I could have buried myself in.

“Aye, girl. How you been?” I said, deciding to play along.

“Good, good. I ain’t seen you at the club lately.”

I had no idea how this chick knew me, so I just went with the flow. “I know. Things been kind of flipped lately.”

“Um, can we get to the subject at hand?” Dacha was obviously pissed and not trying to cover her feelings.

“Damn! Calm down, sis!”

Dacha rolled her eyes and turned her back to her.

“Anyway, I’m looking for my mom. Can you tell me if and when she checked in? It probably would have been a few days ago.”

“Alright. Let me check for you. What’s the name?” She said as she looked down at the computer, then smiled back up at me.

“De-sire Johnson! You got it now? Damn! I just said the same thing to this dumb broad!”

Dacha was ready to take it to another level as she tried to jump over the counter.

Na-something seemed to ignore the comments and looks that Dacha gave her as she stared at me and said, “Yes, it appears she checked into a suite a few days ago and will be here for a few more days.”

She wrote something down on a ripped piece of paper and handed it to me.
